Front Cover Photographs

This is the original image i took of Emily sitting outside in the school grounds.I like this image because it is a mid shot of her which is suitable for the front cover of the magazine.Unlike the other possible photos this image has a lovely background of the natural surroundings which shows a distorted angle of the school building and the pond facing the front of the school.

I took this photograph outside in the school grounds. This photograph has not been touched and is the original  photo I took. However i like this photo a lot but is does not suit the magazine front cover because it is  not a close up mid shot and shows two figures and not one. Therefore i will not use this image for my front cover, but inside the magazine.

The image below shows a mid shot of Emily sitting down in a natural environment at school. The picture shows  Emily on a smartphone and looking at a school folder. The props in this photo portray Emily as an older student who may come across as wealthy.

This image below is the photograph i edited in iphoto of Emily sitting on the rocks by the pond.I edited this photo by using many features such as altering the brightening and contrast controls as well as sharpening the image to define features of her face ,such as her eyes and mouth. The photograph is very inviting and shows a positive aspect of school life and the bright lightning and sun shining through the trees reflects her smile and the idea she loves school.

Typography

The font above is simple yet effective as it is very plain but bold. The font is jet black in colour so it stands out on the page.
I like the effect of this font however i think is too complex for a magazine front over for students.

The font above shows the baseline of the font, this highlights the aspects of a font in general. This font shows the Ascenders 'f' and the x-height.I like this font however i think it is very gender specific to females and it is not suitable for a magazine cover due to the nature of the font.

Edited Photos

The two photographs above represent one original image and one photo i have edited in iPhoto.
The second image is the photograph that was edited in iPhoto on the Apple mac computers.I used a number of features in order to distort this image slightly and transfer the colour pixels to black and white from the original colour photograph.
Firstly i set the image in black and white and used the tool 'Boost Colour',this enabled the image to become more blunt and vibrant so both black and white are block colours. In addition i changed the contrast and used the brightening tool in order to compliment the black and white effect showing definition in the students features such as highlights in Izzy's hair.
In order to make the image look a little more professional i cropped out the very top of the photo so that the three students were the main focus of the picture as the body in the top right of the photo was distracting the eye of the audience from the main object in the photo. However, i used the correcting tool on the students faces to cover any blemishes ,i did this to create a more smoother finish and so there skin was more fresh and bright.

Rule Of Thirds

'Rule Of Thirds' is the most well known principle of photographic composition in media studies. The theory of the rule is that the viewer of the photo is supposed to focus on the main part of the photo as there should be four important parts that should be considered the viewers point of interest .In this photograph the points on interest are the lady bird which is situated in the centre right of the photo.
Factors of the 'Rule of thirds':

  • 3 boxes horizontally
  • 3 boxes vertically
  • 9 sections in total
  • frames your image
