which
Here i have two different versions of the double page spread layout.
I like the colours of the top one as it gives it a more retro feel , however i like the opacity on the bottom left.To make a successful decision i have asked my focus group for there opinions.

Front Cover
This is my front cover page which i will use for my magazine, in order to improve this page i need to include a price and some more colour as the magazine is very black and white and needs to present a more happy uplifting mood.
I think i could incorporate this image into the front cover to brighten it up and add a more indie style to the page to make the genre more balanced.

Music Magazine Requirements
The front cover of music magazine is very important as it is the initial selling point and gives the reader there first impression of the magazine and automatically alters there decision to purchase the magazine. The language used throughout the magazine is very important as it instantly changes the mode of your magazine. There are many sentence functions that should be considered when creating a music magazine:
Sentence Functions:
Declaratives; these are sentences that make a statement.
Imperatives; these are sentence structures which give orders.
Interrogatives; these are asking questions to the audience.
Exclamatives; these are sentences of surprise or alarm.
Tricks of langauge are used to interest the reader and attract them.These tricks accompany the sentence functions as well as the layout and graphology,for example tricks such as ;
Ryhme
Aliteration
Sibliance
Assonance
Intersexuality is often used in magazines to refer to films , this is when we are reminded of media or a saying.
Contents Page:
The contents page is used to orienteer, this is useful and effective as it means that the reader can skip pages to articles they want to read and dont have to read the magazine in chronological order. In addition this saves time and they maybe do not have the time to search through the pages.
Information Value; the placement of elements that reflect their importance.
Saliance; the relative size of subjects that reflects its worth.

Youth Sub Cultures
1950s-1960s
There was hardly any criticism ,all music was excellent and no bands were frowned upon in society. The contents was mainly chart singles and live gigs in local areas of the artists.
The arrival of "The Rolling Stones" and "The Beatles" caused changes in society as the drug culture changed the nature of music and the lyrics.
1970s
"Glam Rock"
There were artists such as "Sweet" "Mud" "T-rex".
Music newspapers continued to be uncritical about bands and musicians until prog rock bands started to spend more money on stage equipment and lighting and didnt focus as much on creating new exciting records.
The 1970s saw the development of NME talk about its self and politics.
1980s
Independent music labels wanted to be seen so they began creating handmade things to advertise their bands this led to individuality and encouraged a new generation of writers. There was also experimentation with writers and different typefaces.
1990s
Music videos were being released and became very popular which altered the way music was consumed by the target audience of the bands genre.
2000s
Nowadays there is a limited music music press due to the fact that most musicians and bands are seen as a pop culture. Celebrity's who have a talent to sing or play an instrument in the media are now perceived to have the right to be rich and famous.

In the Late 1970s and early 80s style in pop music became more important than the music content and records produced itself ,this included things like;
- Makeup
- Clothes
- Video
- Fashion
- Hairstyles

Flat Plans
Front Cover
This is a prototype of the front cover of my indie/rock magazine.this image shows the initial ideas of how the magazine will be presented to the public.I have included both text and rough sketches to show the positioning of article headings ,photographs and the conventional aspects of a typical music magazine.
I have decided to use either a close up or a mid-shot of my chosen celebrity artist for the front cover.I have decided both of these shots because they will instantly attract the target audience and compliments the magazine genre and the text used.
Contents Page
I have chosen to use this format for my contents page because it is quite different and individual from other indie rock magazines according to my research. The photographs on the contents will be a variety of original and edited photos i have taken myself of the framed artist and a backing group of musicians and images from live concerts i have seen.
Double Page Spread
This double page spread shows how my magazine article will look ideally.i will take a long shot photo of the celebrity who is also presented on the front cover. The picture will be split into 3 and slightly distorted for a more rocky edge to compliment the genre better.

Front Cover Photographs
This is the original image i took of Emily sitting outside in the school grounds.I like this image because it is a mid shot of her which is suitable for the front cover of the magazine.Unlike the other possible photos this image has a lovely background of the natural surroundings which shows a distorted angle of the school building and the pond facing the front of the school.
I took this photograph outside in the school grounds. This photograph has not been touched and is the original photo I took. However i like this photo a lot but is does not suit the magazine front cover because it is not a close up mid shot and shows two figures and not one. Therefore i will not use this image for my front cover, but inside the magazine.
The image below shows a mid shot of Emily sitting down in a natural environment at school. The picture shows Emily on a smartphone and looking at a school folder. The props in this photo portray Emily as an older student who may come across as wealthy.
This image below is the photograph i edited in iphoto of Emily sitting on the rocks by the pond.I edited this photo by using many features such as altering the brightening and contrast controls as well as sharpening the image to define features of her face ,such as her eyes and mouth. The photograph is very inviting and shows a positive aspect of school life and the bright lightning and sun shining through the trees reflects her smile and the idea she loves school.

Typography
The font above is simple yet effective as it is very plain but bold. The font is jet black in colour so it stands out on the page.
I like the effect of this font however i think is too complex for a magazine front over for students.
The font above shows the baseline of the font, this highlights the aspects of a font in general. This font shows the Ascenders 'f' and the x-height.I like this font however i think it is very gender specific to females and it is not suitable for a magazine cover due to the nature of the font.

Edited Photos
The two photographs above represent one original image and one photo i have edited in iPhoto.
The second image is the photograph that was edited in iPhoto on the Apple mac computers.I used a number of features in order to distort this image slightly and transfer the colour pixels to black and white from the original colour photograph.
Firstly i set the image in black and white and used the tool 'Boost Colour',this enabled the image to become more blunt and vibrant so both black and white are block colours. In addition i changed the contrast and used the brightening tool in order to compliment the black and white effect showing definition in the students features such as highlights in Izzy's hair.
In order to make the image look a little more professional i cropped out the very top of the photo so that the three students were the main focus of the picture as the body in the top right of the photo was distracting the eye of the audience from the main object in the photo. However, i used the correcting tool on the students faces to cover any blemishes ,i did this to create a more smoother finish and so there skin was more fresh and bright.

Rule Of Thirds
'Rule Of Thirds' is the most well known principle of photographic composition in media studies. The theory of the rule is that the viewer of the photo is supposed to focus on the main part of the photo as there should be four important parts that should be considered the viewers point of interest .In this photograph the points on interest are the lady bird which is situated in the centre right of the photo.
Factors of the 'Rule of thirds':
